RGVN has initiated a pilot project on promotion of SRI. System of Rice Intensification popularly known as SRI is a method whereby productivity of the rice can be increased by changing the management of plants, soil, water and nutrients. RGVN began a Research and Demo wing on System of Rice Intensification (SRI) in April 2008 with support from the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust. RGVN promoted SRI in 26 districts of Assam. RGVN has partnered with 20 NGO partners for this pilot project. Ten master trainers have been identified and trained to provide training to farmers on SRI method of farming. In almost all the cases rice productivity has doubled using SRI techniques.
There is demand from the field for demonstration and piloting of SRI, many NGOs have shown interest to collaborate in this project. RGVN is also keen to expand this programme and is exploring partnership and collaboration in this regard.
